Getting over “The Break-Up”

I have been obsessed with the movie “The Break-Up” for more than a year now.

Although I really liked the Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston comedy, it isn’t so much about the storyline or jokes or that the ending made me cry (I know, I’m a softie).

It’s about the style.

Let’s start with Jen Aniston. This movie came out in 2006, and I’m still going to watch it everytime I’m channel surfing and it’s on HBO. Or Starz. Or any other one of those movie channels that never seem to have the movies I want to see. Except The Break-Up. It’s been replaying for several months now, and I’ll watch it, or at least a good portion of it, everytime I find it on.

In fact, even before it was available for free on those channels, I actually paid $3.99 to see it again from movies On Demand! or whatever Charter calls that service. I had already paid $8 to see it in the theaters.

Give me any two outfits of the entire wardrobe for Aniston in that movie and I’d be the happiest girl in the world. She looked so effortlessly chic. One piece she wears throughout the film puts the icing on each outfit. It is a gold leaf necklace and apparently made by Jennifer Meyer. Oh, and it’s price is about 1,200. Sigh …

But apparently others out there are also obsessed with the style on this movie. You can get an inspired-by similar necklace for just $39.99 at emitations.com.

The obsession stems not only from the outfits Aniston’s character “Brooke” wore in the movie, but the condo that the couple fought so viciously over. I love the colors, the couch and even that weird piece of artwork her boyfriend made fun of that the hot gallery guy bought in the end. I’m pretty sure I would sell my soul for that condo.

In the living room, the set designers accented the leather couch with a white one seen in the movie poster. There are orange accents in the chairs, as well as drawings all around the condo. According to a quick web search, the drawings are actually by Francine Turk. Here is a link: http://www.francineturk.com/thebreakupmovie.php

There is something so relaxing about the colors used throughout the condo — a slate purple, tan and green complimented by white crown molding and dark hardwood floors. Ooooo, nothing makes me more jealous than people that have crown molding and hardwood floors.

To ease my jealousy, I tried my hand at painting our bedroom wall this weekend in a color I thought was inspired by the movie. It’s called “Tin Man” and by Glidden. Note that I do not have crown molding and dark hardwood floors. Instead, a crappy part of the wall where Tin Man gets shaky as it mets the boring white ceiling, despite my husband’s best efforts with the painting tape.

I won’t even go into self esteem issues I’m still having from Jennifer Aniston’s body in that movie. She looked great, and it’s enough to make a girl get off her couch, quit admiring the one in the movie and try that martial arts/yoga combo she does.

Or maybe I’ll just watch the movie again …
